climate action thaT WORKS
Climate change is real — but so is the need for a balanced, practical response. The Australian Centre Party supports a calm, evidence-led transition to net zero that protects both the environment and economic stability. We back clean energy investment, innovation incentives, and grid modernisation, while rejecting symbolic targets, punitive regulation, or ideological conflict. Our climate policy is grounded in science, guided by economics, and focused on outcomes — not political theatre.
A calm, evidence-led path to net zero
Australia has much to lose from the effects of climate change — and much to gain from getting the transition right. But political debate around climate has become polarised, performative, and often detached from reality. One side demands instant transformation with little regard for cost or feasibility. The other denies or delays, risking inaction that will cost more in the long run.
The Australian Centre Party offers a third way: practical, non-ideological climate action rooted in evidence, science, and long-term planning. We support a steady, credible transition to net zero — one that protects jobs, maintains energy security, and prepares Australia for a cleaner, more resilient economy.
We support continued and accelerated investment in renewable energy infrastructure, including solar, wind, storage, and grid modernisation. Public policy should incentivise innovation — not just pick winners. Australia should position itself as a clean energy exporter, not just a consumer, especially in hydrogen, critical minerals, and low-carbon manufacturing.
We also back the expansion of domestic clean energy production to reduce household energy bills, improve grid stability, and encourage private investment. Climate action should not be a burden on families — it should be an opportunity for technological and economic renewal.
Where emissions cannot yet be eliminated, we support scalable, credible carbon offset mechanisms — but only with strong transparency and integrity standards. Our goal is not perfection, but consistent improvement based on what works.
We will establish a National Climate Accountability Office to publicly track emissions progress, assess the real-world effectiveness of policies, and advise on course correction. Climate strategy should be guided by real outcomes, not aspirational press releases or politically convenient modelling.
Importantly, we oppose punitive regulation that disproportionately affects small businesses, regional industries, or vulnerable communities. The transition must be fair, flexible, and realistic — not driven by symbolic politics or activist pressure. Australia’s climate response must be environmentally responsible and economically coherent.
Unlike the ideological Left, we reject setting arbitrary targets without clear, funded pathways. Unlike the populist Right, we acknowledge climate risks and the need for action. The centre is where meaningful progress is made — and that’s where we stand.
Climate action should not divide the country. It should unite us around a shared goal: a safer, cleaner, more prosperous future.
